Under the high patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Public Health, Mr. Wael Abou Faour, represented by the Director General of the Ministry of Health, Professor Walid Ammar, the Lebanese Geitaoui Hospital – CHU and the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the Lebanese University held their third annual scientific congress at the Hilton Metropolitan Hotel on October 27, 28, and 29, 2016.

An organizing and scientific committee composed of renowned specialists ensured the selection of topics and the smooth running of the scientific activities of this congress.

The presentations were led by a panel of eminent Lebanese and international speakers (9 speakers) representing several medical specialties, coming notably from France and the United States. The congress audience was particularly honored by the presence of Professor Jacques Bringer, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Montpellier.

The conferences on the first two days covered cutting-edge topics in various specialties such as internal medicine, neurology, pulmonology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, cardiology, and vascular surgery. In cooperation with the Lebanese Society of General Surgery, the third day was entirely dedicated to general surgery, especially obesity surgery.

The success of the congress was confirmed by the large number of participants (doctors, residents, interns) and the innovation of the topics presented, as well as the quality of the discussions that followed.

During the opening ceremony, which took place on Thursday, October 27, the Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Lebanese Geitaoui Hospital-CHU, Reverend Mother Superior Sr. Marie-Antoinette Saadé, and the organizers of the congress presented an honor trophy to His Excellency Mr. Wael Abou Faour, Minister of Public Health. During the closing dinner on the evening of Friday, October 28, another honor trophy was awarded to the new President of the Lebanese University, Professor Fouad Ayoub, wishing him great success in his new position.

In addition, trophies were awarded to the foreign speakers as well as to the president of the congress Dr. Georges Saliba, the Medical Director Dr. Randa Choueiry, the General Director Reverend Sr. Hadia Abi Chebli, and the Dean General Director Professor Boutros Yared.

Also, during the closing session of the congress on Saturday, October 29, prizes were given to the winners in the scientific competition between interns and residents.
