The closing ceremony of the 5th Medical Conference at the Lebanese Hospital Geitaoui - University Medical Center (HLG-UMC) in Achrafieh took place today, under the patronage of General Joseph Aoun, Commander of the Lebanese Army. The event also marked the inauguration of the Army Helicopter Landing Pad. It was attended by religious, political, security, medical, and social figures.
The General Director of the Hospital, Sister Hadia Abi Chebli, delivered a speech in which she thanked the Army Commander for his patronage of the conference. She said, "The hospital will remain by your side, alongside the school of honor, sacrifice, and loyalty, for you are the ones who carried the weapon of honor to defend Lebanon."
Professor Pierre Yared, the hospital's Director and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the Lebanese University, also addressed the gathering, explaining the hospital's evolution into a prestigious university medical center.
In his speech, General Joseph Aoun expressed his gratitude to the hospital’s administration for their efforts in establishing the landing pad. He said, "It is an honor to be with you today, for my personal admiration and affection, as well as the institution's recognition of this distinguished medical landmark that has become synonymous with safety, comfort, respect, and outstanding medical services, and most importantly, humanity."
General Aoun praised the progress of the hospital in all areas, acknowledging the management's efforts and highlighting the strong relationship between the hospital and military medicine. This relationship culminated today with the opening of the helicopter landing pad. He emphasized that the helicopters will not only be used for transporting injured and wounded military personnel but will also be available to transfer any civilian patient whose condition requires it.
The event included a demonstration by one of the Air Force helicopters, simulating the evacuation of a wounded soldier to the hospital.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the hospital's administration presented General Joseph Aoun with an icon of Saint Joseph as a token of appreciation and gratitude.
